At 8:40pm on August 9th, Gaston Firefighters were dispatched to a car versus farm tractor crash on Front Street (Highway 47) in the city of Gaston. Minutes later crews arrived to find a farm tractor on top of a 2 seat sports car, trapping the two occupants. The tractor was reported to weigh 15,000 pounds, because of the large size and entrapment of car occupants, additional firefighters and technical rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. Crews first worked on stabilizing both vehicles while also providing patient care, they then used two large tow trucks to lift the tractor up. After it was cleared, the car was then pulled from under the tractor and the occupants were then extricated from the car. Both occupants were then taken to awaiting Life Flight helicopters and flown to trauma hospitals in Portland minor-serious injuries.

It took firefighters over an hour and a half to safely rescue the two occupants from the car. Based off of statements given to Washington County Sheriff Deputies, the car was traveling northbound and hit a southbound tractor. This caused the car to lose control and collide with a second tractor, becoming trapped. Deputies are still conducting their investigation, please refer to their press release for further details.

We want to remind everyone that farm equipment is on local rural roadways as they move from field to field working to process local crops. Be prepared to encounter slow moving or wide equipment traveling down the roads.

Gaston Fire District was assisted on scene by Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, Cornelius Fire Department, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Metro West Ambulance, Life Flight Network, Hillsboro Towing, ODOT and Washington County Sheriffs Office as well as their assisting law agencies.
