PF&R Responds to a 2ND Alarm Fire at NW 3rd Ave. & Glisan St.

News Release from Portland Fire & Rescue
Posted on FlashAlert: August 11th, 2017 7:52 AM
unsafe4am this morning firefighters responded to a commercial fire located at 510 NW 3rd Ave. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire burning out of the windows on the ground floor located in the back side of the building. Under further investigation, it was discovered that it had extended through the 2nd floor.

Initial reports from callers witnessed some homeless residents running from the building, yet crews confirmed with a rapid search of the first floor that no one was inside. Once the fire was contained, firefighters conducted a secondary search of the first and second floors, and confirmed that the building was clear.

The building is known as old Fire Station 02, which was built in 1913. It was designated as an "unsafe" building in 2010, which means that it would pose an extraordinary threat to the safety of firefighters under fire conditions. It has also been vacant for several years, so additional precautions were taken to ensure the safety of our crews on this 2nd alarm commercial fire.

Currently the fire is under investigation. If anyone has information about the incident, please call our tip line at (503)823-INFO.

This release will be updated with any new information as it becomes available.
