Gresham, Ore. -- At approximately 8:00 p.m. yesterday, Adrian Gilberto Berg, 32, was shot while attending a social event at Pat Pfeifer Park, 424 NE 172nd Ave. In critical condition, Berg was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died later that night.

This morning, the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office determined Berg was killed as a result of gunfire and his death has been ruled a homicide.

Berg, a Portland resident, was said to be near the southeastern boundary of the park (NE 176 Ave. and NE Davis St.) where he was engaged in a verbal altercation with an unidentified African American man. The suspect, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, reportedly shot Berg before fleeing the area. Investigators are working to determine if the two men knew each other.

The East County Major Crimes Team is attempting to identify the suspect and investigating the circumstances that resulted in Berg's murder. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspect is asked to call the Gresham Police tip line at 503.618.2719.
