Gresham, Ore. -- With the help of funding through the US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Gresham Police Department is continuing their partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact to provide focused DUII patrols.

Gresham officers deploy extra patrols to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the department's ongoing traffic safety campaign. Officers are targeting motorists who ignore the message to designate a sober driver, choosing to get behind the wheel after drinking too much or using drugs that impair their ability to drive. Since January 2017, Gresham officers have made more than 176 arrests of people suspected of driving under the influence.

Motorists can expect to see enhanced DUII enforcements throughout the end of the year. Driving impaired is not an accident; it's a deliberate decision that puts people at serious risk of injury or death. In the United States alone, more than 10,000 people died in 2016 because of impaired driving. Don't let it be you.
