Vancouver Police make arrest in homicide investigation

VANCOUVER POLICE MAKE ARREST IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Vancouver, Wash. --On July 16, 2017 at approximately 1:36 a.m., Vancouver Police responded to 1900 Fort Vancouver Way for the report of an assault. When officers arrived, they located two males outside of the complex deceased with apparent stab wounds. Dustin L. Zapel, a resident of the complex, was identified as a person of interest and a photo of Zapel was released to the media. At approximately 9:00 a.m., Zapel was seen in the area of NE 94th Avenue/NE Covington Rd. and was taken into custody.

After interviews by detectives from the Vancouver Police Department Major Crime Unit, Zapel was arrested for two counts of Murder I and one count of Attempted Murder and booked into the Clark County Jail.

Information related to the victims is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
