The pedestrian who died in this morning's crash near Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 50th Ave has been identified as 51-year-old Patrick Moore of Portland.

There have been 24 traffic fatalities in Portland so far in 2017.

On Friday July 14, 2017, at 12:49 a.m., East Precinct and Traffic Division officers responded to the report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Southeast Powell Boulevard east of Southeast 50th Avenue.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and rendered aid to a pedestrian who suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Medical personnel were in the process of transporting the pedestrian to a Portland area hospital by ambulance when the person died.

Preliminary information learned from the investigation suggests the pedestrian crossed southbound over Southeast Powell Boulevard east of Southeast 50th Avenue and was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian reportedly made an unexpected movement in front of an oncoming vehicle while crossing Southeast Powell Boulevard.

The pedestrian was not in a cross-walk at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, contacted 9-1-1 to report the crash and is cooperating with the investigation. At this time it does not appear the driver of the vehicle was impaired while driving.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding to conduct a crash investigation.

All westbound lanes of Southeast Powell Boulevard between Southeast 50th and 51st Avenues will be closed for several hours until the crash investigation is complete.
