Two suspects have been arrested for the robbery of the 82nd Street Bar and Grill that occurred on Monday July 10, 2017.

During the course of the investigation, Portland Police Robbery Detail detectives identified two suspects, one who they believed traveled to Southern California following the robbery. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Jesus Mezick on Robbery in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, Theft in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. On Sunday July 9, 2017 members of the United States Marshal's Fugitive Task Force arrested Mezick on the warrant. Mezick was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail and awaits extradition to the State of Oregon.

Detectives also obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 8800 block of Southeast Reedway Street after learning the second suspect in the robbery resided at the location. SERT served the search warrant in the early morning hours of Thursday July 13, 2017. During the service of the search warrant, 33-year-old Jamaar A Smith was taken into custody in connection with the robbery. Smith was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, Theft in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Media staging was moved to Southeast 112th Avenue and Holgate Boulevard where PIO provided an incident briefing.

SERT officers are searching the neighborhood for the two robbery suspects, described as being armed with a knife and a handgun during the robbery. Officers responding to the armed robbery saw a vehicle being driven out of the area of the robbery at a high rate of speed. The driver crashed in the area of Southeast 112th Avenue and Boise Street and the two occupants ran from the crash scene.

The Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) are responding to Southeast Portland to assist East Precinct officers to safely locate and apprehend two armed robbery suspects.

Presently, the affected area is Southeast Holgate Boulevard to Boise Street, 112th to 115th Avenues.

The preliminary description of the suspects is one white male and one black male, both shorter in stature. They are believed to have been involved in a robbery at the 82nd Avenue Bar and Grill at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Initial media staging is at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Holgate Boulevard. The Public Information Officer (PIO) is responding to the scene.

Media is asked not to show or broadcast any positions of officers during this active tactical incident.

Updates will be provided when they become available.
