News Release from Portland Police Bureau
Posted on FlashAlert: July 1st, 2017 6:22 PM
Gang Enforcement Team detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this afternoon's shooting.

Detectives believe the victim's vehicle, a black Mercedes Benz, may have been mistaken for a similar car that was being driven during a shooting earlier this week at Taco Bell, located at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Lombard Street.

On Thursday June 29, Gang Enforcement Team officers stopped 18-year-old Amir Isaiah Walker near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Stark Street. Walker was driving a black Mercedes Benz. Walker, who had a warrant, was taken into custody and a handgun was seized from the vehicle. Walker was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on the outstanding warrant as well as new charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Loaded Firearm. Walker's Mercedes Benz was seized as evidence and officers located damage on the vehicle consistent with gunfire.

The victim of today's shooting has no connection to gangs or criminal activity.

Southeast Stark Street will be closed between 111th and 119th Avenues during the course of this investigation.

Based on additional information, the Gang Enforcement Team is responding to conduct an investigation into the shooting.

On Saturday July 1, 2017, at 1:46 p.m., East Precinct officers heard gunfire in the area of Southeast 117th Avenue and Stark Street. As officers began searching for the source of the gunfire, they came across a shooting victim in a vehicle in the area of Southeast 112th Avenue and Stark Street.

The female victim was transported to a Portland hospital with serious but not believed to be life-threatening injuries. Officers located a crime scene near Southeast 118th Avenue and Stark Street.

Preliminary information indicates that an unknown person fired shots from a passing vehicle that struck the victim, who was in a different vehicle. There does not appear to be any known reason why the victim or victim's vehicle would be the target of a shooting.

A possible suspect vehicle was located near the shooting scene, but was unoccupied when police arrived at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting and has not talked to officers is asked to call the Police Non-Emergency Line at 503-823-3333.
