At 1300 hours today Clackamas communications (CCOM) received calls that a car was on fire and has started numerous grass fires along Hwy 213 near milepost 2 while it was traveling. A call also came in that a person was walking on 213 setting the fires. Fire crews arrived to find approximately 5 fires and went to work extinguishing the first as they called for additional engines. The multiple fires spread over approximately 1 mile and as crews arrived they were assigned to the various fires. One section involved a power pole that supported a high tension line so PGE was called to the scene to shut the power down as firefighters worked. All the fires we brought under control and no structures were threatened and the power pole was also undamaged. Firefighters do have one lane open now and all lanes should be open by 1500 hrs. Resources used at the fire ranged from Fire Engines, Ladder truck, interface engines and water tenders.

It is still I known how the fires started and investigators are scene to determine a cause.

These fires all started very close to the highway so remember the grass and brush is very dry near freeways and highways so use cation with burning material and also motor vehicles near the dry grass.
