MAJOR CRASH TEAM RESPONDING TO A FATAL CRASH ON SOUTHEAST 96TH AVENUE

On Monday July 3, 2017, at 6:29 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 2000 block of Southeast 96th Avenue on the report of a traffic crash involving two drivers. One person was reported to be down in the roadway.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and learned that a driver crashed into an unoccupied parked car and was ejected from the vehicle. Medical efforts to save the driver were not succesful and he died at the scene. A female passenger was not injured.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding to conduct a crash investigation.

Southeast 96th Avenue will be closed in both directions for several hours until the crash investigation is complete.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
