CORRECTION: Security Guard Struck by Theft Suspect with Vehicle in North Portland

North Precinct officers responded to the 8100 block of North Commercial Avenue, not the 400 block of North Columbia Boulevard as originally released.



On Monday July 17, at 5:38 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a security guard being assaulted by a suspect in the 8400 block of North Commercial Avenue.

Officers arrived at the location and learned that a security guard confronted a man he believed was stealing items from the property. The security guard and suspect were involved in a brief struggle, during which the suspect retrieved a machete. The security guard moved away from the suspect; however, the suspect returned to his vehicle and crashed his truck into the security guard.

The security guard suffered non-life threatening injuries from the crash. Medical personnel arrived on scene and transported the security guard to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a black or Hispanic male driving a black mid to late 90s Nissan pickup truck with possible front end damage and no rear license plate. The truck has plywood sheets that extend the length of the pickup bed. When the truck was last seen the bed of the pickup contained chairs.
