On Sunday July 16, 2017, at 4:19 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress at a home in the 7300 block of Southwest Brier Place.

A homeowner returned to his residence to find a burglar rummaging through items inside his home. The homeowner informed police the suspect attempted to hide behind a door when the homeowner discovered the intruder. Once the suspect was confronted, he grabbed a knife from the butcher block in the residence, causing the homeowner to exit the home and call 9-1-1. Shortly after the homeowner exited the residence the burglar came outside and ran into a nearby wooded area.

Officers, including a K9 team and sergeant arrived on scene. After a 30 minute K9 search officers located the suspect and took him into custody.

As the officers continued the investigation they learned the suspect entered the residence by breaking a window and entering through the broken window.

The suspect, 50-year-old Kenneth L. Hurley, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Menacing, Theft in the Second Degree, and Theft in the Third Degree.
