In November 2015, Oregon City Police Detectives began investigating multiple sexual assaults that occurred in Oregon City over an extended period of time. Michael Scott Morris, a 34-year-old Oregon City resident, was identified as the suspect and the victim was 13-years-old when the sexual assaults began. During the course of their investigation, detectives did not identify any other victims.

Oregon City Police forwarded the case to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for prosecution. Michael Scott Morris was indicted by a Grand Jury in August 2016 on three counts of Rape I, one count of Rape II, three counts of Sodomy I, one count of Sodomy II and eight counts of Sexual Abuse I. On July 12, 2017 Michael Scott Morris pled guilty to one count of Rape II, one count of Sodomy II, and two counts of Sexual Abuse I. Michael Scott Morris was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Rape II, Sodomy II, and Sexual Abuse I are all Class B Felonies and Ballot Measure 11 Offenses, carrying a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 75 months for each offense.
