Tonight at approximately 7:20 p.m., a cougar was observed on the fringes of Cook Park in Tigard. Several park users spotted the cougar laying in a semi-marshy area on the outskirts of the park. The cougar was then observed walking into a heavily wooded and vegetated area nearby.
The witnesses contacted Tigard Police to report.

Tigard Police contacted the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife regarding the sighting. The agency recommends that all park and trail users in the area be cautious. Concerns were expressed by the agency that it appeared the cougar is becoming more comfortable near populated areas. Officials also recommend using parks or trails with others and refrain from being alone in those areas. Tigard Police also urge adults to keep children under close supervision when outdoors.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife compiled information related to cougars in populated areas. Here is the link: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/living_with/cougars.asp
