Suspect Arrested After Carjacking Delivery Driver in Sumner Neighborhood

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER CARJACKING DELIVERY DRIVER IN SUMNER NEIGHBORHOOD

On Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 1:54 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a carjacking in the area of the 5000 block of Northeast 86th Avenue.

Officers learned the victim was a delivery driver who had attempted to stop a woman from stealing her red 2008 Chevrolet Impala. In the process of trying to stop the suspect from taking the vehicle, the victim was hanging out of the window of the driver's door, as the suspect started to drive away. The victim fell from the car as the suspect accelerated. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of falling from the moving vehicle. Medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

Officers continued to search for the vehicle and follow investigative leads. At 2:59 p.m., the Ridgefield Police Department located the stolen vehicle and suspect in the 900 Block of West Pioneer Road in Ridgefield after callers reported a person driving a red Chevrolet Impala recklessly. The suspect was taken into custody during a traffic stop. The suspect will be lodged in the Clark County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Driving While Suspended in the Third Degree. The suspect will be identified once she is booked into jail.

The case will eventually be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's office for charges in Multnomah County.
