Posted on FlashAlert: June 10th, 2017 9:20 PM
Today, June 10, 2017 at 8:27 p.m., Portland Police Bureau officers received a call that a person hplding a knife while on top of a TriMet bus stopped at the Rose Quarter Transit Station, located at 1000 North Interstate Avenue. Officers arrived and are attempting to safely contact the person. Specialy trained officers with the Enhanced Crisis Intervention Team (ECIT) are negotiating with the person in crisis.

For the safety of all involved, officers have closed the area around the Rose Quarter Transit Station. Currently no TriMet buses or trains are servicing or traveling through the Rose Quarter Transit Station.

The Portland Police Bureau generally responds to more than 1,200 suicidal person calls a year. To help improve our response to these calls all Portland Police officers received Crisis Intervention Training. Additionally, the Portland Police Bureau has created specialized units such as three teams containing both a police officer and mental health clinician from our community partner, Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare. These teams work with individuals who have both frequent police contact and mental health issues.
