PF&R RESPONDS TO 3-ALARM WAREHOUSE FIRE IN NORTH PORTLAND

News Release from Portland Fire & Rescue

On May 14, 2017 at 9:57 pm, multiple calls to 9-1-1 reported a large fire under the Fremont Bridge. The first engine arrived at 10:00 pm at 1300 N River Rd. and reported a significant amount of fire from a large warehouse. A chief officer arrived shortly after and a second-alarm was called at 10:04 pm.

The second alarm brought additional resources to manage the large and complex incident. Two fireboats were also dispatched because the building is built partially over the Willamette River on pier style wood pilings.

The fire became even larger due to the contents of the warehouse; carpet pad and other synthetic products that burn easily. This prompted incident commanders to call for a 3rd Alarm at 12:55 am.

Crews worked throughout the morning to prevent heat and flames from damaging neighboring buildings. While the fire is under control, the fire continues to slowly burn in and under the floor of the building. Crews are projected to be at the fire location until sometime tomorrow.

There were no injuries. Investigators are still working to find the cause. No damage estimates have been determined.
