At 3:54pm PF&R crews were called to the scene of a partial building collapse at 4823 SE Division. PF&R's Structural Collapse Rescue Team was amongst the fire units called to assess rescue and medical needs. Despite an unusually high volume of pedestrians, due to warm weather and peak time of the day, no injuries occurred when between 100-200 bricks fell from the building facade and parapet. Structural Engineers from the Bureau of Development Services were called to assess damage to facade and structural components to the building once it was determined that no injuries had occurred. "Given the amount of pedestrian traffic that was on the sidewalk today I can be nothing but relieved that we didn't have our teams scrambling to get people uncovered and transported to hospitals" said Battalion Chief Andy Ponce after surveying the scene with Tech Rescue team members.
Approximately 10 fire units and approximately 36 firefighters were originally called to the scene which is now been turned over to building owners and the property management company.
Pedestrian traffic is shut down to north sidewalk, as well as westbound lane of SE Division between 48th and 49th. @PBOTinfo will be providing updates via twitter.
