May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. All motorists are reminded to safely "share the road" with motorcycles and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe. Also, motorists should be aware that there will be an increase in motorcycles on the roadways with the warmer weather.

Motorcyclists are reminded to make themselves visible to other motorists. As a rider, simple things like ensuring you have a valid motorcycle endorsement, receiving quality motorcycle training and wearing proper safety equipment can be key elements in staying safe.

Also, as the summer approaches, the Fairview Police Department will be conducting DUII enforcement patrols to arrest persons driving under the influence. This was made possible by a grant through Oregon Impact.

Oregon Impact provides educational experiences to end impaired and distracted driving. With an emphasis on teen drivers and those that ride with them, Oregon Impact works with middle school, high schools and colleges in Oregon and SW Washington, and attends multiple community events each year to open conversations and encourage good choices.

If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actions may save someone's life, and inaction could cost a life.
