Beginning Monday, May 15th and carrying through May 28th, deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Team will begin extra patrols focusing on motorists who are not wearing their seat belts. Deputies will be out during the day and nighttime hours looking for violators at the intersection of Lancaster Drive NE and Silverton Road NE.

According to the National Highway Traffic Administration; in 2015 seat belts saved an estimated 13,941 passengers over age 5. Additionally on Memorial Day weekend, May 26th thru May 29th, deputies will add extra DUII patrols over the holiday weekend. Overtime grants like these are made possible by our partners at the Oregon State Sheriff's Association and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
