Lightning strike starts house fire (Photo)

A home off SE 252nd in Damascus was struck by lightning early Friday morning igniting a house fire. A sleeping home owner was awaken by a loud crash. Upon further investigation she found her attic space on fire. She quickly activate 911 and alerted a tenant on the property to evacuate. The two escaped without harm. Fire fighters from Clackamas, Sandy and Gresham responded, Clackamas had the fire extinguished within 30 minutes. Investigators believe the homes metal roof was struck by lightning at or near a roof vent igniting the fire. The family was displaced. The amount of damage to the home is still under investigation.

Clackamas Fire wants everyone to remember that lightning while beautiful and awe inspiring is very dangerous. When a storm is overhead please remain indoors.
