What: Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, will host a special kickoff event for the 2017 Fill the Boot fundraising campaign and continue a 63-year tradition of helping save and improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease in our community.

Members of the media will have an opportunity to hear from event coordinators, an MDA representative, and Allison Reetz, the 16-year-old 2017 MDA Oregon Goodwill Ambassador who will share her story. Andie Proskus, a Beaverton High School graduate, will also talk about how the MDA has helped her.

Where: TVF&R Station 66, 13900 SW Brockman Road, Beaverton, 97008

When: Monday, May 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Why: Off-duty TVF&R firefighters will take to the streets to once again Fill the Boot for MDA. Firefighters will ask passing motorists to drop a donation into their fire boots on May 22 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Highway 217 intersection in Beaverton, on May 23 at Wilsonville Road and Interstate 5 (near the Fred Meyer parking lot) in Wilsonville, on June 2 along First and Hancock in downtown Newberg, and on June 3 at Bridgeport Road and Interstate 5 in Tigard.

For more than six decades, firefighters have fueled MDA's mission to find treatments and cures for life-threatening muscle diseases. Muscular dystrophy and other related diseases take away people's ability to walk, move, smile, talk, and even breathe.

Funds raised through TVF&R's 2017 Fill the Boot events support MDA's life-enhancing programs, including support groups and clinics, and assist families with medical equipment and costs. They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle diseases can enjoy a week of fun activities while gaining confidence and independence.
