No additional update are expected today on this matter.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office Tactical Negotiation Team (TNT) will be responding to assist to safely locate the suspect. Updates will be provided as they become available.

The Portland Police Bureau is conducting a neighborhood search for a suspect that was involved in an encounter with officers that resulted in a shooting. The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), assisted by the Air Support Unit (ASU) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), are conducting the neighborhood search. Additionally, precinct officers and resources from other Portland metro agencies have responded to assist.

The area affected is from East Burnside Street to Northeast Glisan Street, Northeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to 32nd Avenue. Residents inside this area have been asked to shelter-in-place and to call 9-1-1 if they see or hear anything suspicious.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s, 5'7" to 5'9", 180 pounds, wearing a green shirt, black pants, blue hat, black backpack, armed with a handgun. The suspect may be limping and injured.

This incident started at approximately 6:28 a.m., when East Precinct officers responded to the area of East Burnside Street and Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard on the report that a man was walking in the area holding a handgun.

Shortly after officers arrived in the area, they encountered the suspect on East Burnside Street, west of Cesar Chavez. During this initial encounter, shots were fired by police and the suspect ran into the neighborhood. Officers encountered him again near Northeast Laurelhurst Place and Couch Street where additional shots were fired by police. The suspect again ran off into the neighborhood so officers established a large neighborhood perimeter to contain the suspect.

No officers have been injured and it is not clear if the suspect is injured. The suspect's actions have not been confirmed, including whether or not he fired any shots at police.

At this point, the search for the suspect is an ongoing tactical incident and no additional details can be released. Once the suspect is located and the scene is secure, detectives will assume control of the investigation.

Updates will be provided when they become available.
