News Release from Portland Police Bureau
Posted on FlashAlert: December 24th, 2015 4:35 PM
The person killed this morning after falling from a 9th story balcony has been tentatively identified as a 21-year-old man. His name will be released after the Oregon State Medical Examiner conducts an autopsy and notifies the man's family of his death.

Based on information gathered at the scene and in the apartment attached to the balcony, officers believe that the fall was accidental and that alcohol may have been a factor.

On Thursday December 24, 2015, at 6:12 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the Vue Apartments, located at 1717 Southwest Park Avenue, on the report that a man fell from a 9th floor balcony and landed on Southwest Mill Street.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located a male down in the roadway with severe trauma consistent with a fall from a building. Medical personnel checked the man for signs of life but determined that he was deceased.

Preliminary information indicates that the man may have fallen from a 9th floor balcony but officers are continuing to investigate and are awaiting the arrival of the Medical Examiner.

Traffic is impacted in the area due to the investigation. Southwest Mill Street is closed between Park and 10th Avenues, and 10th Avenue is closed between Montgomery and Mill Streets.

The Portland Streetcar route through the area is also closed.

Updates will be provided when they become available.
