2nd Driver dies in Fatal Crash from 12/23/15 (Photo)

Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on Highway 99W near Old River Road
Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate a two-vehicle fatal motor vehicle crash involving a minivan and a sport utility vehicle, about four miles north of Monroe. The crash resulted in the immediate death of a 54 year old Eugene man. The 2nd driver died on December 26, 2015 from his injuries received in the crash.

At about 7:26 am, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, Benjamin Keith Nelson, age 25, from Monroe, Oregon, was driving southbound on Highway 99W, north of Old River Road, in a 2000 Chevrolet Venture Van. He crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a northbound 2007 Ford Escape sport utility vehicle, driven by Arthur Earl Fuller, Jr., age 54, from Eugene, Oregon. The Chevrolet Venture came to rest facing south in the ditch on the east side of the roadway. The Ford Escape came to rest facing east in the northbound lane.
Medics from the Monroe Fire Department arrived and pronounced Arthur Fuller deceased.

The driver of the Chevrolet Venture Van, Benjamin Nelson, 25, of Monroe, Oregon, was pronounced deceased at Good Samaritan Hospital on December 26, 2015.

Preliminary investigation indicates Benjamin Nelson was driving under the influence of intoxicants (drugs).

Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash and the public is asked to contact Detective Sergeant David Peterson at 541-766-6820 if they have any information. ODOT arrived and the highway was closed for about four hours.
