Oregon State Police (OSP) is investigating a Tuesday afternoon collision along Highway 22 about four miles west of Salem that has resulted in the death of an adult male. The highway is partially blocked with ODOT personnel on scene helping traffic move through the area until the scene is cleared.

Preliminary information indicates on July 16, 2013 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a commercial truck pulling a flatbed trailer was pulling across the westbound lanes of Highway 22 near milepost 21 to proceed eastbound. The truck and trailer had nearly cleared the westbound lanes when a pickup driven by an adult male collided into the trailer's left rear axle area.

The pickup's driver was transported to Salem Hospital where was later pronounced deceased. His name and information will be released Wednesday following confirmation of next of kin notifications.

The truck's driver was not injured. His name is not available at this time.

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Peggy Bishop is the lead investigator.

OSP is assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT. An off-duty paramedic from West Valley Fire District was traveling through the area and arrived on scene shortly after the crash happened. The paramedic started emergency medical care until Salem Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene.

No photographs for release at this time.
